Cuenco Atzompa

$1,433.00 MXN

Santa María Atzompa, Oaxaca.

Santa María Atzompa, home of the Zárate Blanco family, owes its name to the Nahuatl words atl ("water"), tzontli (head), and pan ("place"), which mean "over the head of the water". The Atzompa Bowl is a decorative piece that pays homage to this place and to new traditions. The orange color represents traditional pottery, which emerged to meet daily needs with red clay. The white color symbolizes innovation, with the white clay created by the Zárate family. Its production, which can last more than a month, involves the collection of raw materials in local mines, manual modeling on the wheel, and decoration before firing.
